Not able to access the Internet with IE with new PC
Hi
Our company recently upgraded our (PC) workstations and they gave me a 1.98gHz Pentium (IBM Netvista) for FREE which I plan to setup for my 13 yr old.
Most licensed software was removed except for Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3
(Excel, Word ... etc are still there)
Anyway I tried to get on to the Internet (Using Internet Explorer) and I get message
"IE Cannot display the webpage" .. I ried numerous sites (including this one) and I get the same message.
I ran the Windows Diagnose connection Problems but that only told me to verify my connections
Help !!

Zee,
Is there any way I can download FIXIT (copy to a usb stick) and then run it on the PC that does not have Internet access?
I also tried the Manual procedure (no Go) and I also realised this PC only has IE version 6.0

Yes you can download a fixit solution to a USB on a working computer and use it on the non-working computer.
Before you do that, do an experiment and try downloading another browser - Firefox to a USB and install on the non-working computer. Can you connect to the internet with firefox?
The reason I'm suggesting download another browser is to identify if it's only an internet explorer issue or something else
Download Firefox: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Not sure how to download Fixit -
I downloaded Firefox and installed in on the non-working computer - I cannot connect to the Internet with Firefox - I get messages:
- Problem Loading Page
- Server not Found
You are correct it looks like it may be something else.
I noticed that my Local Network Connection Icon in the right bottom of the screen is active and when I put my cursor on it I can see
"Local Area is connected @ 100Mbs" .. so it looks like I have a connection but I cannot use Internet Explorer or Firefox
What should I do next?

Check to see if this computer is clean or infected with malware.
Malware may be the issue because this computer is using Internet Explorer 6 , a very vulnerable and outdated version of Internet Explorer, which according to Secunia is "Affected By 148 Secunia advisories and 216 Vulnerabilities" Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x - Advisories by Product - Advisories - Community
So the way forward is to follow the instructions to check for malware posted by Broni

OK I am in the process of Downloadeding all the stuff (as per Broni) and running it on the non-working computer
Guess I will have to open a new Tread.
Thanks !!

You're welcome and I see you've already opened a new thread in the Malware section.
