    Can't access some common websites

    Hi,
I'm having problems accessing certain websites, the BBC's is one. I'm getting a "oops! Firefox could not connect to www." If I restart my PC, I can access the websites that I previously couldn't but after a few hours, if I try to get them again, same problem. I have pasted the web addresses into Internet explorer but with the same problem. I am using AVG Internet security and 64 bit Windows 7, please help, thanks!

    Hello,
Have you rebooted your ADSL modem and/or your computer recently?

    if not, you should

are you running any firewall or protection software on your computer?

    Hi,
I've rebooted everything and I can always get the sites after a PC reboot but then eventually, the same thing happens. I am using AVG pro but I have also used Norton Internet security 2010 and it gave me exactly the same problem! It works for a while and then I only get access to some sites????
    Thanks

    Hi curlykale

Have you tried using another web browser?
    ie Firefox,Opera, Google Chrome.
If not give one of the above a try and see if the problem persists.
If you do this make sure when installing the second browser you don't allow it to
become your default browser unless you actually want that to happen.
Could you also right click my computer and select manage.
Click on the + beside Event Viewer.
    Now click select Internet explorer
Now in the right hand pane are there any errors around the time your problem starts, reported there?
If so double click on the error. In the box that opens up could you select all the text in that box.
Now copy and paste it here.
There is also usually a blue link to Microsoft. If you click on that link you sometimes get
more information on the error and a possible solution.
If so give that solution a try.

    HI,
Ive tried Google Cchrome, Opera and Internet Explorer, all with the same results. None of them work on the same sites until I reboot. Then its just a matter of time before they become
    inaccessible again.
When I go to Event viewer (windows 7) I get the options of Custom views, Windows Logs, Applications and Service Logs and Subscriptions. I cant see Internet Explorer in any of these or to the right of these,
    thanks.....

Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button then Control Panel then
System and Maintenance then Administrative Tools.
Now double-clicking Event Viewer then select Windows logs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Now Click on System in the left pane.
Check to see if there are any errors around the time when
    the problem occurs.
Double-click an event to view the details of the event.
Post the exact error code and its details here.

    Hi curlykake

We can check to see if your maximum transmission unit (MTU) is not causing the problem.
Go to DSL report found here Can't access some Web/FTP/Secure sites & troubles with email/VPNs/file trans AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ - dslreports.com
This will give you instructions on how to check if your MTU is causing the problem.
