System freeze when drag and drop
Hi..
I have been advised to post my problem here after assistance in the Malware/Virus section
I am still having problems with my system freezing when trying to drag and drop files on the desktop/in windows explorer.
Also when, I try to delete a file this sometimes happens.
I can rescue the system my terminating explorer, and re-loading it through the task manager, but not everything re-loads including some shell items.
My system has seemed to be degrading in performance over the last week, so something is wrong I feel.
Any assistance would be appreciated
Regards

Over the Top repair Install:
Insert your XP CD into your CD drive and restart your computer.
When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
When you see the following message displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER:

At this point an option to press R to enter the Recovery Console is displayed.
DO NOT SELECT this option.
On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press the R key to repair Windows XP, Follow the menu on the screen to complete Setup.

Hi Sevend,
Before using Windows Recovery Console, you can try these simple steps to resolve this problem,
It seems that files in your computer are fragmented/hard drive contains bad sectors/some of your Windows files got corrupted. This can usually happen due to lack of maintenance on your computer.
First off, clean up your hard drive, by un-installing unused programs and delete junk and other obsolete files.
Delete junk files:
Below steps will help you in deleting junk/un-wanted files from your computer:
1. Click on Start>> Run>> type cmd and press enter.
2. Type below commands and press enter after each line.
del /s /f /a /q %temp%
del /s /f /a /q C:\windows\temp
del /s /f /a /q C:\windows\prefetch
Defragment drives:
After completing above steps, defragment your computer by following these steps:
1. Click on Start>> All Programs Open My Computer, right-click on the , and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now. The Disk Defragmenter opens.
3. Click your first hard disk, and then click Defragment. Disk Defragmenter will take some time to complete.
Check Disk:
Once Defragmentation is completed, please go-ahead and perform check disk to repair the file system on your computer.
Open command prompt (Click on Start>> Run>> type cmd and press enter) and then type the following command then press enter.
chkdsk volume:/r
Note: If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer.
Use Windows System File checker
After rebooting the computer, check whether you are experiencing the same problem. If yes, use the Windows System File checker utility to restore corrupted system files by following below instructions.
1. Insert the Windows XP Installation CD in the CD Drive.
2. Open Command Prompt and then type the following command and then press enter to start the System File checker utility.
sfc /scannow
Restart the computer once the System File checker completed.
Hopefully, this will resolve the issue and you will see improvement in computer performance, please let me know the status of the computer after performing these steps.
Regards,
Ziyad, Bangalore
