Question Is Vista Personal Security a bug?!! infected...

    Hi all,
Mate asked me to look at his laptop.
It was riddled with bugs, trojans etc and would only start in safe mode. Totally useless. Finally got some progress after numerous blue screen crashes during scans with Spybot, Ad aware, Ccleaner oh and ewido failed.
    Removed Antikeep, bug? Zango?
Looking a lot better now but... i keep getting Personal Security popups. Looks all legit but seems to clash with spybot etc and says the pc is being attacked! Oh and it changed it back into safe mode...
It won't let me install spybot onto the pc, i'm having to run it from a copy i have on cd. The pc isn't connected to the 'net.
Spybot showed a clean scan last time run.
Is Personal Security a bug? It won't let me delete it.
    * edit* darnit... i've just installed mbam on it but it shuts it down, like spybot. It's stopping all scan programs, it's like it's alive (the bug)!!! is it this Personal Security thing? weird.

    Thanks, Dave.

Yes, Personal Security is fake, and malware, and a bad one too. Bleeping Computer has a guide to remove it (Remove Personal Security (Uninstall Guide)) but it requires the use of MBAM too. Therefore, if still having problems, I recommend posting for help in our Spyware Forum and let one of our experts take a look.

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay, sussed it

I was running a spybot scan and the bug sent the pc into safe mode again.

So i was just about to chuck the pc at the wall.....and saw mbam staring at me.

What the heck, i thought, it's already gone into safe mode, can't change into safe safe mode can it!! So i managed to get a safe mode scan (it wouldn't do it before) and BAM, That 'Personal Security' trash is history nuked off the toolbar, wooooohooooooo.

So Malwarebytes is your man for the job

    It's running gggggrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaatttt

Please mark this as resolved and i hope it helps others, helluva bug to kill!!!

oh and then i log on here and see your post Digerati!!! oh well, turned out ok, thanks anyway

Great! Glad you got it resolved. Now I urge you sit down with your brother and help him understand what is good, and what is not. Do not get on his case about it as these rogue programs are VERY authentic looking. I would also make sure that system has a good, updated security system established, and of course, make sure all users avoid risky behavior - most notably, participating in illegal filesharing at P2P sites - perhaps the most dangerous of all Internet activities.
