Ever since I updated to the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, I been having this strange problem that I have never encountered before.

Basically, whenever I log off from Windows Live I am suddenly unable to copy text and have to log back into Live and then exit again to copy text again.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Live several times and the problem continues to happen. What can be done to fix this problem?

Try a system restore point (XP/Vista & 7).
