I hope I'm in the rite place.

When I open my Email, ((Windows Mail), Windows Vista Home Premium), a Windows security window opens stating:
Login to Mail.Freenet.co.uk (1)
Please verify that both the user name and password are correct for your mail server.

User name
Password

Can anyone explain why this window has suddenly started to appear, and how do I stop it? Because of this window I can no longer read my mail.

This is often an indication of an ISP temporary server failure.

Has this issue persisted over time?

I think this is the third or forth day now.

Have you tried typing in your user name/password? Perhaps you should contact you ISP if this is an address from your ISP.
