Microsoft security update won't install-corrupt files-please help
Hello DAL peoples,
Saterday I went to start my computer (Dell Xps Gen 4: Hardware Scan | D-A-L Computer Help
scanner/app/results.php?id=1b3f75b484b0edbbe0422988a386e53a) and during boot. Dos
text informed I had an important NTLDR missing. I could do nothing but restart my system.
I tracked down some information on how to fix the NTLDR file. I popped my windows xp
pro cd into my cd rom drive and booted from there. I was planning on installing the OS all
over again, but I noticed a repair option. Luckly after it repaired my system, I was able to
keep most of my programs etc. Now I'm am trying to get my PC back to the way it was
before the NTLDR missing issue and my pc wants to install "Security Update for Windows
XP (KB956744)" I downloaded and I have the yellow shield icon in my right hand tray. But
they will not install. I attempt to install, it proceeds, it closes. Then pops right back up
saying I need to install them again. I ran a complete scan with Anti-Spyware and Malware
Megabytes in safe mode and they did not find any infections. I ran the windows clean up
utility and still no luck. I ran dial a fix and it states so files like jesetup.dll, imgutil.dll,
inseng.dll, mshtml.dll, msrating.dll, and many more were corrupt in my System32 folder.
I have no clue what I'm am to do to fix this?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated,
thanks

FYI: I'm still haven't found a solution, I downloaded the security pack from Microsoft administrator's options where you can personally get the file your looking for. It said it installed successfully. But I'm still getting the installer icon.
I also tried a clean boot, Msconfig>disabled all 3rd party services except my Nvidia driver service. Still to o avail. I'm so stuck

Run through the Windows updates link in my signature and see if that helps your Windows Updates to download and install successfully.
Post back and let us know please.

I skipped method 1 as instructed!
Microsoft validation link results message:
"Validation Complete!
Thank you for completing the validation process and for using genuine Microsoft software.
By using genuine Microsoft software, you can be confident that you will have access to the latest features, security, and support, which will help to improve your productivity and expand the capabilities of your computer."
method 2: regsvr32 .dlls
I checked all the regsvr32 dll files with cmd, and all were successful.
Method 3: Other Steps you can take to fix Windows Update
When I first got back into my computer after repairing, my time and date where different. The language was set to french and the time was in military time.
Check the language setting in Internet Explorer:
I do not have this option, no language button or tab in my IE browser.
I went to update my time and date and I got an error saying "An error has occurred while synchronizing with time.windows.com"
3. Make sure that the two boxes are checked that say "Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3".
I couldn't find these options
Still having the same issues with wondows updates.

Before I suggest further assistance, please run SFCScannow to make sure you have no missing or corrupt .dll files.
Please let me know what version of IE browser you are using.
Did you go on to complete the 'Having trouble with Windows Updates' link in my signature right to the end.
kind regards,

Ok.
Start>run>type "sfc / scannow" cmd console pops up for a half second then closes and does nothing.
I'm using IE 8
I did complete the instructions you gave. Like I said I did not have some of the options that were instructed in my version of IE that I could find. The time and date server did not work at first, I tried another server and it was successful.
