Not really. Software installed on a machine writes to various areas/folders/reg keys etc etc.where can I burn it from my desktop then put it in there?or can you do that?
If you happened to have copied the speedstream 4200 media (CD I assume) to your hard disk, then you could point to that folder for any installs. Otherwise, you'd best try to obtain the required media via download.

well that only confused me lol so I got a linskys broadband router rt31p2 but cant quite figure out how to hook the ethernet to the back of my computer i dont have a jack like that on it i only have usb.I only want the internet on it while I am at home and just need to download a few things on the laptop then im done w/ it.besides I use my desktop mostly for internet and laptop for files but need to download a few programs via internet.thanks so mush for your help
If the laptop doesn't have an ethernet connector (LAN connection jack, like a large phone connector - see pic), I'd take the router back and explain your situation to them.
Are you sure the LAN connector isn't hidden behind a small sliding or hinged cover on the laptop?
What is the make and exact model of the laptop?
Oh I have a LAN on the lap top but not my Desktop or do I need it? the linskys manual and install disk shows both pc's hooked up through the Etherneton the router and the modem is hooked straight to the router.IDK I am so confused I am not computer smart.
This is correct, modem receives and delivers the WWW to the router, and the router "splits" the signal and "routes" it to the various computers.the linskys manual and install disk shows both pc's hooked up through the Ethernet on the router and the modem is hooked straight to the router.
Yes, as the router only provides Ethernet connections to the computers. If there is no ethernet connection on the desktop (and you have an open PCI slot on the desktops motherboard) you can pick up a PCI LAN card for probably $15.00 or $20.00 US to insert into the desktop. Then away you go. Just follow the routers directions on assigning IP address's to both computers. Once you're up and running, the two machines can share files, a printer, etc, etc.I have a LAN on the lap top but not my Desktop or do I need it?
