Ok ive been looking at this forum for some time now and its very interesting and helpfull. So i Sign up :yippee: Ok i have just been upgraded to up to 8meg broadband and it tells me i and connected at 7.6 meg everytime i sign up. But when i try download music or films it only downloads at 12kb/s and never higher no matter how many seeds or peers. My friend did the same download as me and he was downloading at 250 kb/s and i was still at 12 kb/s and he has a 2 meg connection. Ive tried so many things and ive also phoned my isp which is BT but they just told me a load of crap. As i dont know what im talking about i could not argue with them too much.

This is a very slow forum at the moment. If someone had an idea they would have posted it. Sorry for the lack of people and ideas.

If you want my opinion there is not much you can do affect these conditions. It is all due to either your ISP or the server you are downloading/uploading to/from.

Are you using the modem provided by the ISP? Are you using their cables? Is the connection Ethernet? Do you know if the cables are Cat 6?

I am using all the right things sent by my isp and also a modem. They tell me im connected at 7.5 megs so i should be getting good speeds. My friend downloads films and songs at around 250 kb/s and hes on a 2 meg con. So i dont know whats wrong. I cant get over 12 kb/s no matter what time of day or how many seeds and peers. Its like something is stopping me i dont have a firewall or anything like that stopping it so im not sure. Ive phoned my isp loads of times but they just tell me im getting good speeds through to my phone socket that its probably a problem my end.

Maybe its just some settings or something but i cant find anything wrong anywhere.

Only other thing i could think of was my modem is a bt voyager 105 and ive had it for about 2 years. So i thought it might be the problem. If so what do you recomend to get. If i change my modem what should i try....

Ok this test http://www.auditmypc.com/internet-speed-test.asp told me i had just over 3 meg.

And this test which i use all the time http://www.speedtest.net/ told me i had just over 5 meg.

Speedtest was: Download 5980 kb/s Upload 368 kb/s

So on both tests they tell you and me that im getting around a 5 meg connection right ? Ok my mate is on 2 meg connection and he can download films and songs at 250 kb/s all mine on what ever i try to download it does not go over 12 kb/s lol and is very slow. So something is not right. I know all about the peak times and stuff like that. I just want to know why it is not letting me download things the speed i should be. I downloaded a song on limewire pro and it took about 20 min and the file was only 3,860 kb i also download films and albums through torrent spy and things like that. Any ideas please...
