You don't say which antivirus programe your friend is useing, but it looks like spyware. here are 2 free programes that should clean his machine. Install them both, update immediatley, then run and clean everything they find.

Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

SpyBot Search&Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

This programe works like an antivirus, but for spyware, it scans all the time
SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

If you need an antivirus programe AVG is free
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
but do not run 2 antivirus programes at once, they will conflict, and not work.

keep them up to date and your friend should be fine.
