Downloading Music

I'm going to wait a bit. From time to time, I get in the mood to download music. Now, that I have some info about it and reassurance that it is safe to do...I'll probably go with Napster. No real hurry though. When the mood strikes me again, I'll just do it.

    Thanks everyone for your advice.

Napster used to do the file sharing thing (I believe)? Now, you would be downloading from their website, right?

A bit. Remember the old Napster software? It's very similar to that, expect for its more advanced and much nicer. You can also do a free trial of Napster.

No, I don't remember the old Napster software. (I didn't have a computer until a couple of years ago.) I only saw it because my brother showed me the site on his puter about 5 years ago. Have you personally used the new Napster site? Free Trial - I'll probably check it out when I am sure that I can make use of it.

I did for a day . My brother did and he loved it. The only problem is that its encoded with DMCA like every other store that is legal.

Why should DMCA be a problem? I am unfamiliar with it except that it is a copyright law. How does that affect downloading music?

When you legally download music it is encoded with the DMCA "thing" Not exaclty sure what its called . But for say if you download it from iTunes, they will make it so you can't burn it to a CD only use it in an IPod. You can't share it etc. Must stay on your computer. However there are ways getting around it, which can be easily Google but I won't say anything since its against the forum rules.

OK I get it. The fourteen day free trial that Napster has out now, is only to download music to an MP3 player and that music cannot be burned to a CD. People are getting around that and converting it anyway. However, Napster has another type of membership where you can download a track for 99 cents or a whole album for $6.95, and those downloads CAN legally be burned to CD. I may be cheap - Ha Ha! But, not so cheap that I would want to risk doing something underhanded.
