    Digital River-Microsoft: The Ultimate Steal

    Hey Guys,

I'm going to be a college student in a few weeks and to get myself prepared I decided to buy a proper version of Microsoft Office. I looked for student discounts online and this was the best deal I could find: Microsoft Office Discount for US Students -The Ultimate Steal- Office 2007 Software for $59.95

I logged on with my university email address, registered and bought the product, I also ordered a backup DVD. It seems like exactly what I need considering it says in the EULA that it can be installed on both a laptop and a desktop... Which is exactly what I have.

Anyway, I ordered the product and downloaded it (the file was about 500mb if that's at all helpful) and saved it to my desktop, however, when I ran the install file just to see if it worked (my older version of MS Office was still installed at the time), it gave me a message saying the installer failed. I looked it up online and found that it's an error that can sometimes occur when another version of office is installed and you're trying to install a new one. I uninstalled my other Office suit and tried running the installer again and the same message came up... I'm a little worried I've been scammed seeing as when I try and track my order the site tells me no orders have been registered.

I'm a little scared and more than a little confused, please help!

    Hi ,

Never a good idea to try install a program if an older version is still present . 500mb for MS Office sounds right . Basically uninstall the older version - run a registry cleaner app ( I'm assuming you have one installed ) as uninstalls can leave behind registry values that might conflict with a new install . CCleaner is a good freeware app - has a registry cleaner and also cleans any unrequired temp files from your PC . Here's a link for the download :

    Download CCleaner 2.22.968 - FileHippo.com

Thanks! Will try when I get home from work. Hopefully it'll work.

    [EDIT]

I read somewhere that putting the install file on a CD and running it that way will cause it to be successful. Does that make sense? Also... What are the chances I've just been scammed. I'm kind of worried.

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to say I resolved the issue by downloading the file again and running if after uninstalling my old office suit and running a registry cleanup with ccleaner.

    THANKS!

Yes I was going to suggest re-downloading it; perhaps the download was wrong. As for it being legit, I have gotten the very same thing myself so I know that it is a legal copy. When you start class I would make sure and have the school give you some kind of verification to prove that you do go to school in case Microsoft asks. Technically you are suppose to be in school when you buy it.
    Promotion Eligibility:
This offer is good only to eligible students who attend an educational institution geographically located in the United States. This offer is non-transferable. One of each product may be purchased per eligible student (but not required).

The following conditions serve to define student eligibility for the Promotion:

    1. .edu: Individual must possess a valid e-mail address at a U.S. educational institution which contains the domain suffix .edu; OR
Pre-Approved School List: Enrolled in a U.S. educational institution included on the pre-approved school list; OR
Submission of school enrollment: Submit verifiable school enrollment via the validation process; AND

    2. Individual must be a student at a U.S. educational institution and must be actively enrolled in at least 0.5 course credit and be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request.

Microsoft or an appointed vendor may contact you to verify that you are a current student. If documentation is not provided indicating that you are a current student, you will be liable to reimburse Microsoft for the difference between what you paid and the estimated retail price of the software.
    Enjoy the software.
