My laptop keeps logging me out...?

What should my laptop be set on when I shut the lid? I click remember login info & still get logged off.

Laptops by default are usually set to go into standby when you shut the lid and for security reasons require you to log back in when you open it again. It will then hibernate and switch off the power after it's been on standby long enough.

Each manufacturer usually has their own utility to control your power settings. eg. In mine I can go into advanced settings and set it to do nothing when I close the lid... hence no need to log back in.

Which is fine at home, but if I'm out and about I switch it back to requiring me to log back in.

    Hi sept9...

For WinXP I do a similar setup as lawli56's suggestion except that I have an external monitor attached so when I close my Laptop's lid I don't want the Laptop to do anything. When I'm just running the Laptop without the external Monitor I setup the Laptop so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernation which makes me log back in after I "wake" it up.

Now I saw by one of your other posts that your Laptop is running Vista the options for "Closing the lid" are...
    - Get into "Control Panel"
    - Click\select "Power Options"
    - On right-hand side of window select\select "Choose what closing the lid does"
    - The options for "When I close the lid" are the same for "On Battery" or "Plugged in"...
    Do Nothing
    Sleep
    Hibernate
    Shutdown

On my Vista Laptop I have chosen "Hibernate"...When I do take it out of hibernation it does ask me for my password which is what I want.

My setting on the "Password protection on wakeup" is set to "Require a password". There is an option to "Don't require a password" but tht means that anybody can access your Laptop after it wakes up but it is greyed out until you click on the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" link...
