Nope. Just a reality check. And the reality is having a robust backup plan is strongly recommended and a wise precaution, but not having one does not make one foolish, or deserving of bad fortunes.anyway, what is this, an inquisition?

I sensed no "argument", and if I did the words used did not warrant any ban. There was no need for "moderating" - in terms of enforcing rules and policy.I thought that you, being a mod, might have taken action
I was a mod once, & if a member had argued with me, I think I'd given him/her a short term ban
Fantasy's issue had been resolved, however. So perhaps I should split these last few posts into a new thread. Your added post changed the topic from Fantasy's problem to how you backup, and your opinion of (the vast majority of) computer users out there. If you wish, I will split this tangent out to allow for further exposure and greater discussion, or we can just close it, as requested by Fantasy, and let it fade away.
While your opinions on this topic are not in line with mine, your comments are not in violation of site rules so I defend your right to express them. I did not respond as a mod, but as an individual and long-time technician responding to extreme, and perhaps misinformed views expressed in this technical forum. As a volunteer here, my "job" is to make sure folks have correct information in order to make informed decisions.
I said "extreme" because those comments classified an entire group of people as "extremely foolish", and that is simply not true. The fact is most users don't backup their data and even most advanced users don't keep a current (defined by individual needs) backup of everything. And while I can not prove it, I think I am safe to say most of those people are not foolish, so I dispute that comment as it is untrue. Should EVERY one have a backup plan. NO! Not every one needs one. There are many people who don't care about lost personal "data" - they just need a computer, and perhaps access to the Internet.
"Deserving of what they got" (except, upon reflection, relatives!) - well, I don't understand it, but that is your opinion, not mine. I believe badguys, people who knowingly do wrong, deserve the punishment they get. The innocent and naive need education. Most users see their computers as another (very finicky) communications or entertainment "appliance" and are hesitant to touch anything for fear of breaking it - typically a wise precaution, not foolish.
If you wish to discuss this line further, I will split it out (don't know to where yet - probably Software Discussion) so others see it as a new topic. Otherwise, I think it best to let it fade away.
It's the Avatar. When I first Joined, Digeratis avatar looked at me with that glare and I thought @@it, he's mad me. Actually he's a very meticulous, forthright, cool standup kind of guy in my book. So don't pay attention to the avatar.
It is surprising to realize how many folks come to these forums honestly believing members of the staff are paid employees of the site! Not only do many believe that, but they think it is our job to fix their problem NOW! Some post multiple replies to their post in the span of a few (10 - 15 or less) minutes, complaining that no one is helping them. They do not realize the staff are just people from all time zones who donate their free time to share what they know, help people with their computer problems, and maybe learn something new along the way.you say you're a volunteer, but aren't we, in effect, all volunteers?
@ rokytnji -Thanks! I try. And concerning my avatar, have you meet Mrs. Digerati?

I know what you mean!, in my days as a mod, that forum had members from Australia, America, Canada, New Zealand, Honolulu, Poland, Japan, China etc, but very few from England, so I filled a 5 to 10 hour gap, so whilst the others were asleep, or just waking up, I was carrying out my duties, it worked out very well & as I was unemployed, [made redundant] I was able to be online for around nine hours a day, seven days a week.
Okay, I you mean that your computer infected by virus, and you have already backed up ur data. but make sure that you have backed up ur data is infected or not if not then this will be best to restore and get fress and virus free data.
I followed you okay up to here, but you lost me with,Okay, I you mean that your computer infected by virus, and you have already backed up ur data.I understand some folks speak (and type) English as a second language so correct spelling and proper grammer structure can be a challenge. But when dealing with technical issues, it sure makes communication easier, with fewer misunderstandings. Forums are not the place for IM and TM lingo. I might suggest the use of a spell checker. Then, before hitting the submit button, read your post back to yourself out loud - to "hear" if it sounds right.but make sure that you have backed up ur data is infected or not if not then this will be best to restore and get fress and virus free data.
