Do I need to update Quick Time, getting error message
I have Quick Time installed in my computer. A friend of mine sent me 2 videos over my Yahoo IM and I saved them to my Documents. I go to open them and I get an error message that reads, "Couldn't open the file video because it is not a file that Quick Time understands". He uploaded these videos from his camera to his computer, he can open them, but I can't. Do I need to update my Quick Time or Quick Time Player, if so, do I have to unistall the old one?

You can try that and you shouldn't have to uninstall it. Just download it from apple's website & run the program. However if he is able to run the videos in quick time since you aren't it is also a possibility that the files are corrupted in which case you need to re download them. Did your friend create these videos himself?

Ok, he uploaded the videos to his computer again, he sent them and under the movie clip it reads 100_0200.MOV. tried to open it and I get same error message. These are only videos that he is taking with his Camera and uploading them to his computer. I think this is the info you asked for, my computer is: Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, Intel Celeron CPU. His computer is: Windows XP, PRO Version 2002, Service Pack 2, Intel Pentium Dual.
I notice that lately I can't open a lot of things other people send me through my emails. Recently I had a Vundo Trojan that someone helped me get rid of on this computer site. Sent a Hijackthis log and was told to check alot of boxes to either fix or delete. Could we have deleted some program or software that I need? When I try to open other attachments in my emails a box comes up and asks me if I want to look for a program that will open that file, it can not find the program file and wants me to run a Registry Scan. Ran one and it said I had a lot of errors in my registry and asked if I want to fix them. I didn't want to click on anything because thats how I caught the Vundo in the first place. Should I run a Registry Scan and have it fix any errors? Thanks........

Wow I hadn't even noticed that you had replied. Sorry. A registry scan should only be done by trusted software. I would not use anything through the internet such as through a pop up. If this is a registry scan by a program that a moderator here instructed you to use then it is safe to run it.I don't know of your particular situation and I can't help with malware problems but it is possible that something was deleted that you needed. What have you done since then? Have you been able to correct the problem? I suggest that you uninstall QT and then download and install the latest version of QT. Perhaps that will solve your problem. It is possible that sending files over the internet is corrupting them. To test your particular situation, if possible, you can try to do a physical transfer from one computer to the other such as through a USB drive instead of through the internet. You can also try to use another source to transfer the file over the internet. Ask him if he knows of a particular codec that is needed to play the file. Again sorry that I haven't gotten back to you.
