wide screen with ie
Can someone please tell me why IE gives me a wide screen format when connecting to a web page? About a third of the web page is off the screen on the left. I have tried reducing the screen with the zoom feature, but it goes back to 100% when another web page is loaded. There must be a control I haven't found yet. brian.f

Some more information would be nice. What version of IE? What version of Windows? Is this a PC or notebook? Did you try "dragging" the sides in to a smaller size? Note that 100% is normal.
When did the problem start?

O.K. heres a fill-in. IE version 7 on Windows XP on a PC. The problem started when I downloaded Quick Time from Apple. Fonts changed, web pages went widescreen and, believe it or not, the PC started up when I turned on the printer. Shortcut icons appeared on the desktop that I don't usually display. A mild form of chaos!. So I removed QuickTime.
Things are now more stable, but the fonts are not the same as those before the download, and, most irritating, the web pages are wider than the monitor screen. So I have to pann to the right to find search buttons and other info that is off-screen. I have carried out a full scan for a virus with negative results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. brian.f

You might try going to a system restore point before the download. Or you might try resetting IE7 from Tools > Internet Options > Reset. Be sure to read and understand what the reset does.

thanks for your reply. I have gone back to October 2008 on system restore and get the message "cannot restore on this date as computer has not changed". Error report lists a long, long list of errors for 3 January "The application management service terminated with the following error: the specified module could not be found". Reset seems a bit severe, but will it work?? brian.f

Resetting IE is not severe and any add-ons you like or need can easily be reinstalled or enabled. The point is a large proportion of IE problems stem from conflicts with add-ons. If you don't really want to reset, you can go into Tools, Add-on Manager and disable all non-MS add-ons.
If only troubleshooting were that easy to know what will or will not work.

thanks for that - will give it a go. brian.f
