Laptop battery not charging
hi there,
i have an acer aspire 1641wlmi and i recently changed the battery as it was no longer charging. i figured it was the battery as i've always just left the battery in the laptop and its about 3 years old now! seemed the obvious problem. however since getting the new battery this doesnt seem to be charging either. the epower management has the battery at 0% no matter how long the power cable has been plugged in. the computer runs absolutely fine on ac power - it just wont charge the battery. any suggestions? i dont want to go buying another ac adapter to find out it was an easy fix!
i run on windows xp sp2
i dont know if this is significant but i did a pretty recent factory default reset, and also i was in the states a few months ago and thought the power pack was running awfully hot out there. still if it was the power pack then the lappy wouldnt work would it?
thanks in advance

You might have a loose connection on the main board that handles the charging. If you are brave enough, open the laptop up (be sure to separate the screws and label what they went to) and look for any open, loose or fried connections (usually dark brown to black in color). If there is a fuse on the mainboard, be sure it is not blown (prevents power surges from reaching the main board).
On another note, it is recommended to always remove the battery when it is fully charged and you will be using an AC outlet. Re-charging an already charged battery wears down the internal cells.

thanks for the reply
i attempted to remove the back! i removed the modules i was able to and there was no signs of trouble, inluding the bit where the power goes in but that was masked by a fan that i couldnt remove without some force. i attempted to remove the whole back but it proved more difficult than i thought it would be. i think i'll leave further inspection to someone who knows what they are doing lol. i'll keep you posted on how i get on incase anyone else has similair problems
thanks again

Check your battery on some other laptop's , it may be that your new battery is not working.

Yes the new battery should fit. It sounds like the differecne is the number of battery cells. Check the packaging to make sure.

Your Acer laptop battery might not working properly so replace your acer battery with a new one.
