    Cable Modem

Hi guys, got a question, I recently changed internet providers, I got a modem when I changed over, the modem uses the cable to transmit the internet , now I have an older model wireless router, the router has a modem in it, my question is, can I connect the new modem to the wireless modem?

My router has a dsl line for the input not an ethernet port, but it also has 4 other ethernet ports but are not for the input.

How about some specific model numbers so we can make sure we know exactly what we are talking about.

And tell us exactly what you are looking for as a final outcome.

My wireless router is a NETGEAR DGB111PN-100UKS and the new modem is a Scientific Atlanta EPC2203.

I want to know if I connect the two together, so that I can get wireless internet.

Well, sadly, I cannot find any documentation on the Netgear to see what ports it has on the back. If it has a "Wan" or "Uplink" port, then you can use that, connecting it to the Ethernet Port on the new modem.

Reading this off the box it has 4 LAN Ports one RJ-45 port and has a WAN Port: ADSL RJ11, T1.413, G.DMT, G.LITE, ADSL2+, ITU Annex A

The main issue here is that Can I connect the new modem (Scientific Atlanta) to the wireless router (Netgear)!

That does not make sense. A LAN port uses an RJ-45 connector.

Sadly, where it says Wan Port: RJ11 is where you have a problem. I think you need a different router unless that RJ-45 is an uplink port.

    Just to add:

    Many modems are ISP specific.

I do not think you can nor would want to connect these two devices.

The question would be can you use your old wireless modem/router with your new ISP?

If your new ISP does not work with your old modem/router than I would think you need a new wireless router sans modem.

In other words a wireless router to add to your ISP modem.

Yet perhaps your old wireless modem/router would work all by itself.

    Have you tried this?

You might also contact your new ISP and inquire if they have a compatible "Wireless Modem Router".
