    freee newsgroup

Recently verizon and most isp's dropped newsgroup service of all alt.* newsgroups. I relied on them to obtain tips and receive advice for programs like quicken, eudora. I also followed the handicapped groups.

Does anyone know of a free newsgroup service or one I can subscribe to that carries these. TIA

I don't know if these have any of your newsgroups that you are after but if you download Windows Live Mail here they have a newsgroups feature, but I do not know if it's just techie stuff. Sorry if this was no help.

Many ISP's have recently done this.

The problem with free Newsreaders is that they still depend on your ISP connection.

Hence the groups still will not appear.

The one that still works albeit a bit clumsy is Google Groups.

Just do a search for your .alt

The Windows Live isn't based on the ISP newsgroups, they are based on Microsoft groups, which is why I don't know if they have what cyberwasp wants.

Many interesting questions arise: - just my free thinking:

Nothing is or was free. You need to pay for your ISP.

ISPs blocked the .alt Usenet under the rationale that it was a primary source for Child Pornography.

Plus who among the public sheeple still know what Usenet is/was? Assuming their rationale.

ISPs are now setting standards as to rates per usage.

Perhaps this is proper perhaps not. After all most utilities charge per usage.

One can always change their ISP but most likely all will follow suit.

Anyway nothing is free with the exception of our opinions I suppose.
