    AVG not updating

I'm not sure this is the right area for this question, apologies if not. My AVG (version 8.0) isn't downloading updates.

What I feel happened is that I denied a registry change through Spybot Search and Destroy and that change had something to do with my AVG Updater. Not sure what other information you need to help, but help is greatly appreciated.

The first thing I would try is to uninstall Avg; restart your system; install Avg & this time accept the request.

Most virus programs will give you a valid warning about changes to your registry and/or other protected areas. Accepting the change is most likely okay, if you are installing a trusted product, however you should always check by scanning the product prior to installing.

I recommend you switch to Antivir or Avast. AVG has gone way down hill with the latest version. Just my 2¢.

    Antivir

    Avast

By original reply was to assist in the current problem of installing Avg.

However, I agree with BEAR on Avast. In fact I use Avast on 3 of my systems. Since I never used Antivir I can not offer any input.

As do I. (I'm down to only two machines since I've moved from Ontario 11 months ago, where I had seven working machines, but I ran Avast on all of them with no problems, ever.)

I appreciate all the feedback. I agree that AVG has gone downhill and am glad to move to different software, even though I'm losing 6 months of paid "protection". Many thanks to all!!
