So you have had this problem for nearly 3 months?

Sorry I do not use Firefox so may not be much help here.

Here is the same issue (don't know if it is you or not):

Again I agree that between installs try cleaning your registry:

I use this freeware which is a moderate digger:

    RegSeeker

Before using any cleaner you should back up your registry.

ERUNT is a great free tool for that:

No Jephree that's not me I just looked on Google for someone with a similar problem, it seems quite common, as I recall I did have this problem about a year ago and it was a really simple fix but for the life of me I cannot remember what I did - typical, anyway, thanks for all your help and at least firefox opens now and I still have my bookmarks :-)

Jephree I think I've cracked it, did some searching around and found this and everything is ok now

check for a file named m3ffxtbr.manifest in the "chrome" folder of your installation directory (usually "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\chrome\m3ffxtbr.manifest"). If the file exists, delete it, then restart Firefox. This file is created by the "MyWebSearch Toolbar" (a form of spyware). [3][4]. This file is automatically removed by Firefox 1.5.0.2 and later releases. That file can also be named a2ffxtbr.manife
