Intranet
Hi guys,
What is the best way for people to access data on different computers within the same company and within one building)?
The company is a medical hospital and the different doctors and administrators would like to be able to see and access patient's files, x-rays etc from any computer in the building.
I thought using the intranet might be one way, but I'd like to hear from the experts out there.
Thanks
Chris

Using an intranet would certainly be a good idea, but don't forget you will have to code a clean and concise web based program in order to allow the users to access the files efficiently, or create a web based system where the users can view the files through a browser rather than open them from a remote network drive, but this is dependent on the software that is used. Alternatively, you could set up a server and create mapped network drives on each computer so that files can be opened, simply creating a centralised storage space for files on the network.

Thanks for the feedback Owen. A couple of questions;
1. What software would you suggest?
2. Would your suggestion, allow for someone off site to access the
files too?
Thankx

In regards to the second question, it all depends on the software that would be used, the connectivity of the sever and of course the security configuration that blocks unauthorised users from accessing the network.
In regards to the first question, I'm afraid I can't answer this. I'm not really an expert in this field so I couldn't really help you with implementation or the type of software that would be used. I just thought I'd throw some ideas onto the playing field for the different ways you could setup the system.

Thanks again..... Are there any other connectivity methods you can suggest, other than intranet for this senario?
