Question error messages in ie and firefox

I am using a laptop and wireless connection and running vista home basic. about a month after getting the laptop outlook seemed to have a bug and wouldnt display messages. Since i preferred mozilla on my old desk top i started to use firefox and thunderbird and only use ie for a french website which only works in ie. About a month ago both intenet browsers started to fail to open pages returning error messages 400 / 500 / paramenters not recognised. I have run spyware, norton, windows care - reset ie.
where should I go from here?

    These are server errors:

    400 service discontinued

    500 command not recognized

Anyway might as well try HijackThis:

Do not post HijackThis logs in this section please.

Thankyou for your time and effort.
Before I get going - i have done spy bot and am running Norton ( came free with laptop) but will check they have updated properly and will follow instructions in 'read this'

Is there an advantage to trying AVG instead? Have been using it on this computer and never had any problems.

My emails are downloading fine and this desktop is connected to the same ISP / router and is fine but then it is running XP - Vista is a pain - my list of irritations is endless, while i prefer the way it looks, rather like a dippy blonde it is useless at basic tasks like knowing what the time is.....

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    Personally I would remove Norton.

Both AVG and Avast are decent free AV's.

Only use one. Also what firewall do you use?

The XP wall is basically good.

Those errors you posted were server errors meaning they originated from the server rather than your computer. Unless your computer is somehow being block from the servers in question.

Anyway the HijackThis guys can tell you if anything is amiss within your own system.
