    Help with Linsksys router...

Hi there, I hope someone can help me in laymans terms!! I have looked in other threads but am stuck!!!
I have a LinksysWRT54G that has been running for couple of years without a problem, I run a desktop and a wireless laptop from it. last weekend there seemed to be a problem with my virgin broadband, that is now working and for most of the week, my wireless connection has been intemittent, now I have nothing, I have had to unplug router and use modem direct with desktop to access internet.
My router was set up by my brother (who is nowhere near me now) I have read threads where someone says press re set - I have looked at the button but am afraid to do it in case I cant set the system up again!!!! AARRGGHH!! Sorry for being so dumb!!! If I press reset is it easy to set it up again on my own?? do I use lap top and desk top to set it up? I had a look at the 192.168.1.1 (I assume i have to have router plugged in etc for this to come up) but it means nothing to me!!!!

I am thinking I may be best to get an expert in!!!

The reset button should be on the front panel of a 4 port router , and ane on the rear panel of a 3 port or 1 port router.

It is just a little hole big enough to stick a paper clip into. Pressing will just restore the factory defaults, then you can proceed as though you just bought it. This would be easier than trying to figure out what went wrong & reinvent the wheel.

I am sure that if you can read, you can do it.

For detail instructions on setting up your router, go to this site and click on the option under solutions that fit your system.

Hi, I just tried following the instructions for upgrading firmware, it seemed to go ok, but I still cant access the internet via router... think i will have to reset it again. When I followed the instructions I backed up settings then restored them, perhaps I will have to re-set settings. will have a go later on, this is doing my head in!!!

I guess that I am somewhat confused Why would you restore settings that are not working ??

My suggestion would be to reset back to factory defaults & then go through the set up process described as though you just purchased. This link has an automated set-up process, click on the Easylink Connect link & down load the executable. EasyLink Connect is a first-time setup application that automates the setup of your Linksys router, including:
    Cabling Instructions
    Internet connection configuration
    Wireless connection and security setup
    Other devices and computers addition

    Hi There
Thankyou for link, I managed to follow instructions and re-set Router, it worked for about 5 minutes then I lost the connection again - Having spoken to a few work colleagues, I believe a few of them are having problems with Virgin broadband at the moment, I will try again this evening. I was really pleased with how easy it seemed though!!!!
