Can't get Outlook to be main default email

I have vista home premium and there are 2 email programs fighting for my use.

I originally setup my email thru "WINDOWS MAIL" yet wasn't liking it, when I installed office I setup "OUTLOOK" which I prefer over windows mail.

In OUTLOOK I went to the help menu and put in default email it gave back this answer

Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Other.
Under General, select the Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar check box.

I did that but still when I go to a site like craigslist or to a webpage with a clickable email link once I click those to send an email for some reason windows mail (not outlook) opens.

I even went into the control panel default programs area and tried to set outlook as default yet when i check windows mail it still has default setting for .eml apps, cant seem to uncheck the box (its greyed out).

What am I missing or doing wrong here to not get outlook to be the default for clickable links for email within internet explorer 7.

Sorry to have asked finally figured it out, in control panel default programs i went into set assosications and manually changed the .eml apps to work with outlook vs windows mail.

Seems to have worked after a quick test of a few clicks...

Just wonder why the assuciate a file with a program thing wasn't working like I thought it would or should with this... even in set associations menu I had to browse for outlook (wasn't offered as an alternative program).

Thanks for the update and your discovery. It might help others!

I do not use Vista but you might want to start a thread in the Vista section regarding the association issue.

Perhaps one of our other Vista members will have ideas here.
