My IP address

My IP address
How do I find the IP address for the computer I am using? Thanks!
-
start > run > cmd
then: ipconfig
-
-
ok, now. I have an ip address that is not mine. How do I find who owns this ip?
-
"Whois" searches will give you the ISP provider if you are lucky.
For example you can find out that my ISP is Bellsouth and my location is somewhere in south Florida. That is public information.
As far as finding out my name and any personal information you'd need a warrant or else find yourself in court for other reasons.

how come those two methods for finding my ip address came up with two different addresses?
-
someone else used my email address for getting into a free ads site, and setting up an account. That's where I came up with the ip I was looking for originally. I didn't know mine, (and am not sure I do now!), so was wondering how to find it. Thanks for your help!

The internet link is your "dynamic" address that changes every time you start your computer.
IPCONFIG lists your "static" address supplied by your ISP.

If you're behind router ipconfig command will only show LAN address, not the public WAN address allocated to your cable connection.

In this case, you may either use my previous link, or
http://www.ip-adress.com/ (it'll show you more details, and a map of your location), or go here:

and look at Best guess at your IP under "Network.
