    Internet sharing (I'm going insane)

Hi all, and sorry in advance if this question has already been addressed elsewhere.

Here's the dealio; I lost my internet connection, so I'm using my neighbors wireless (Per her consent of course) which is fine for my laptop. How do I go abouts connecting a cat5 from my laptop to my desktop so that I can share the wireless with my desktop? I've tried a few things, set a static ip on both machines, but for some reason, my computers wont connect to eachother, they both say a network cable is unplugged. Any ideas?

edit: Also, i tried the microsoft directions for internet sharing, and when I go to set the wireless to share I get this error:
Internet connection sharing can not be enabled. a LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic addressing.

I know that's supposed to make sense, but I don't know what to do.

does your neighbour know that you're intending to use More than one machine on her internet?

Yeah, she knows, and I know that wouldn't cause a problem, since I had the same internet service she does. The thing that's weird is I can't get the two computer to connect at all. Like I said, the network icon says there are no cables plugged in, when there are..

connecting a straight through Cat 5 cable won't do much for the machines to talk to one another you need a crossover cable.

Oh yeah, totally forgot that they were different cables. Then is there a way I can plug my laptop into my router, and have it act like the internet source, then jsut plug my desktop into the router as well? Thanks again
