hope i am in the right place

since joining sky BB (basic BB)my pc starts and runs very very slow

it was ok when i was with tesco

now it can take upto 10 minutes from starting the pc before i can use the explorer or outlook

i am not very technical

pc is about 5 years old i am running mcafee anti virus that comes with sky

i had to put in ethernet card thingy before i could use the sky BB

can anyone tell me why my pc is so slow its driving me mad

have you had to put any software that came with SKY?

when not connected to the net is the machine just as slow?

when i installed the sky BB with the cd at the end it asked me to download the latest explorer 7 i think and it took long time to download

not sure if it was done properly

i had to put ethernet card in(the one slides in the slot) as my pc didn't have it and is not wireless

also mcafee what comes free for 12 months when you join sky

i was using avg and zone lab before(both removed)

still have spybot and registry mechanic(basic one)

i have not tried turning the pc on without the router connected i will do later on and post the reply not doing it now as it has taken me over 20 minutes since i started the pc and get to this page

have you got all the latest updates for XP?

IE7 was out a while ago.

PC is set for automatic windows update(download and install)

one more thing has started now when i start the pc a little winow opens left top corner with the heading Autoplay with little dots running at the bottoms as its downloading something?

i don't download any silly stuff or anything just internet surfing and email

my son downloads tracks(1 or 2) now and then using limewire pro
which i just removed just in case.

when i was on tesco BB 512speed it was fine sky BB is supposed to upto 2meg

just to add the that little window(Autoplay) is like a pop up just keeps coming up every few seconds

Limewire pro is that used for downloading copyrighted material?

that could be one of the problems.

up to 2MB that doesn't mean you'll get 2MB

you'll only achieve that speed if everything is perfect, how far you're from the exchange etc

i have removed the limewire pro and the autoplay window has stopped.

but its still so slow(it has taken me 25+minutes to get to this page to write this from starting the pc)

other things since sky BB happenning are msn messanger logs off sometimes itself

yahoo messanger won't let me log on sometimes

i am not bothered about the above just the speed and it doesn't matter if i don't get 2meg

i don't think iam far from the exchange i am in ol8 area
