Can't receive email
Windows xp pro
Outlook and outlook express.
For no apparent reason I now can't receive nor send email.I have several email addresses with ntlworld.com but all I get is an error message
"0x0800ccc90" wiyh every attempt from any address
I use avg as mail scanner and have disabled this but still the same message.
I have tried on another pc and email is received as normal, so the fault must be in my pc.
I've tried system restore, safe mode outlook and outlook express but I'm not getting anywhere.
any ideas please?

No problem with IE.
I've read through the articles you mentioned and tried most things.There seems to be a dll missing but I thought this would be reinstated from my reading of the article but apparently not.
When I started a new email account as suggested I thought I had cracked it but no! I can send emails from the new account but not receive emails.Error message says not connecting with server.
It looks like a reinstall of outlook exoress is needed but I'm a bit worried about wrecking the registry!
Any advice would be welcome.

are you trying to connect to the correct server.
have you set up OE correctly?

I've found the problem,I think.
AVG free scans emails received for virus etc.
I disabled the email scan and managed to receive dozens of emails.
Don't know what went wrong with AVG. Do you think I should uninstall and then reinstall? At least I know what to look for if it happens again.
Or do you recommend any other anti virus program (free)

how have you got the email scanner set up?.
I use AVG free and have no problems

I had no problems for years until last week!
As far as I know just the default settings which always worked fine.
I've now disabled the e mail scanner and OE works again.Is there a specific way to set it up?

are you using the latest AVG 7.5?
did anything specific happen just before you started to have problems?

Yes latest version with updates installed.
I have been having problems with webplus 10 and related patches.The outcome was several system restores. This might have something to do with it.
Funnily enough I just noted in my first query I said I had disabled AVG but it made no difference. Thinking about it what I did was to disable the whole of AVG this time I just disabled the email scanner, which seems to have solved the problem but now I have no protection when opening emails.

To let you know. I uninstalled AVG and reinstalled it.
This solved my problem, everything now ok (until the next time!)
I don't really know what the problem was.
