Internet connection problems
First off, thanks in advance for your help!
I have a di 634m dlink router running a hardline to my desktop and then we also have a couple of wireless laptops connected to it as well. So i can connect wirelessly with my laptop but when i came home this afternoon from school and booted up my desktop the internet did not work, even though i can connect from my laptop. i went into the network connections and it said it was connected but it was sending and recieving next to nothing in packets.
So now i'm at a loss of what to do, i've reset the router twice, i've restarted the computer, and i've gone through some of the more basic settings as well as checking the cord and nothing. it might be of note that when i checked my log on the router it said it was rejecting a decent amount of packets continually from a certain ip (wether it be my desktop or not i'm unsure).
any suggestions?
as to the network controller i have a nvidia nforce networking controller with a driver version of 4.7.5.0 and the latest being 50.0.9.0 but i cant seem to find that particular driver anywhere.
one more thing, if i disable the network connection it wont let me reconnect saying the network failed. yet if i do it a few more times it eventually reconnects.
if you need more information let me know. thanks in advance
UPDATE: so my computer settings show a 169.254.x.x ip adress for my computer, and iprelease renew does not work. doing a network diagnostics scan shows that the realtek rtl8139 family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC failed the scan with the two area's it failing in being connecting to the dhcp server and the DNSServerSearchOrder.
so i've come to the conclusion that its a NIC error i'm just not sure how to fix it. any help is greatly appreciated!
