    router to router

Hi guys I was wondering if I can use a router to catch the signal from my other router. I have a simens router that I have hooked up and I would like to hook it up to the SMC router in my shop because I do not have a phone plug in the shop where I can hoop up my adsl connection. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, A little confused here.. You want a router to communicate with another router for what purpose? Like are you wanting to have another PC hooked up out in the shop? Because instead of going router-to-router, i think what you really need would be a wireless card for the PC... or are you trying to extend the range of your wireless connection?? if thats the case i dont think router to router will work if the router to PC wireless card doesnt.

I hope this helps, but please correct anything i may have misunderstood.

I am not 100% sure, maybe a mod can confirm this, but i have never tried to hookup a router to router connection, mainly because i didnt think it was possible. Maybe someone else can confirm this?

Sure, you can do this. A router is a switch that routes. You just use the distant router as a switch, generally by disabling its DHCP server, and use the uplink port to go back to the first router. You will probably have to assign it an IP that is not in the range of the 1st router's DHCP range. You should probably look in your router's manual - download from maker's site if you don't have it - for instruction on disabling the router feature.

Of course, a long Ethernet cable will work too.
