    Help . . .

Ive just brought a new laptop and even though it can detect a connection with an excellent signal it will not connect.

The only time it will connect is if I reset the router.

If anyone could help and explain (in the simplest way possible as i do not know anything about computers) that would be great. Thank you

Is this connection your wireless router or are you possibly connecting to someone else's??

Also I am assuming that you are using Windows Vista, as the laptop is new?

Well, the best way to know that you are connected to your network is to make your network a secure network, and give it a unique name to you. This means logging into the router and changing the SSID to a unique name..

    For example

I have my network named after my last name...

As for seeing if others are connecting to your network, while logged into your router, go to Status -> Local network tabs and select DHCP Clients Table, it should bring up a page like this, which shows you computer names of computers connected to your network.

NOTE: I use a linksys routers, So your router config may not be the same as mine, but should be along the lines of the samer terminology, so you may have to hunt for these tabs.
    For example:

Once you make a secure network, and get connected to it, the pc should automatically re-connect to that network everytime you start up the PC
