    Virgin Broadband not connecting

Four weeks ago, on Monday my broadband through Virgin was working OK, on Tuesday morning nothing.
My router shows in the status that I have an upstream speed of 288kb and downstream of 576kb, but will not link to the internet.
I had a similar problem over a year ago, and it was because I had changed the password on the account, but had not changed the router.

This time it's something bigger - or so I'm being told. Virgin have requested that BT take down broadband on the line and re-install. No difference.

Virgin have instructed me to test a bt_test@startup_domain username, and that connected. Then asked me to try bt_test_user@adsl.virgin.net which did not connect. They didn't say if that proved anything.

This farce has been going on since the end of August without any sign of being fixed.

Has anyone had a similar experience. If so what was the cause.

    Hi rannoch

I'm just thinking can you access your Router settings (type your IP into browser address bar) on the main page you should see your line speed "see pic"

If this is low or at 0 kbps you may need to report a fault on your line "and tell them you want it fixing pronto, ask to speak to the main adviser of the shift at BT", if you are showing down and up kbps check your Firewall and AV and any anti spy you are running (as a friend of mine was having a problem we discovered that a recent update to her AV resident shield was depleting her DL kbps from over her normal 5MB down to 1MB).

One other thing is your Hardware Firewall enabled "if your Router has one and hat is it set to ?
