DNSSpoofed

  1. DNSSpoofed

can anyone please tell me what this means
    "http://dsldevice.lan/cgi/b/ic/connect//?nm=1&client=192.168.1.64&server=198.18.1.7&event= DNSSpoofed&url=www.google.co.uk/"
my PC is on Windows 2000 my router is a thomson speedtouch wireless 585v6
although i am using an rj45 cable to link to it as the netgear USB wireless adapter on the PC sees the router but wont connect to it. this was satisfactory but now when i try to get on the web (to my homepage which is google) i get a page that shows a speedtouch type logon screen with a save password box already ticked(but NOT one that you see when setting up the router) then that is it - no web acces and the address in the address bar is as above - i am confused, any advise/guidance will be much appreciated.

DNS Spoofing in most cases is malicious. It redirects or hijacks the web browser.

However I also see cases where this could be a reaction from the router itself if it is not configured properly.

Is this a new router? A new "setup"? Did you ever have it working OK?

If it worked previously what changes have been made that might coincide with this problem?

In your case I would tend towards the latter as apparently your router is trying to straighten something out.

Jephree - thanks for your reply, the link makes interesting reading although a bit over my head (although it does generally feel right if you know what i mean by that) - i think is a malicious attack as the router had been working successfully - can you suggest how i can clean the PC and prevent another such attack in the future?

  4. Please read THIS and after completing the steps outlined post a HijackThis log over in that section along with a brief description of your problem.

Do not post HijackThis logs in this section please.

And I was going to ask if all PCs on your network were having the same problem or just that one. Oh well - glad you got it sorted out.
