my computer won't talk to my modem
Hi forgive me if this has been delt with before but I'm new here. I joined Virgin Media recently and can't get my broadband running at home. Changed the modem and bought a new ethernet cable so now it seems like there is something wrong in my laptop. The same laptop used to connect to the internet in other locations so I am going nuts! I tried disabling the thing that says LAN a cable is unplugged but it doesn't help. Anyone got any ideas please?

Hi and welcome to D-A-L
did virgin set up the broadband and check it was working?
have you phoned virgin?
-
Hi, yes spoken to Virgin loads of times and they sent a new modem then told me to buy a new cable then went through the drivers on my laptop and said everything is okay. They didn't check that BB was working when they installed though which I'm p******* off about.
What can I do?

I had problems at my daughters just after virgin BB was installed, it wouldn't work with my laptop (the only machine in the house) after phoning up I was talked through setting it up.
it was not checked after it was installed

well I've talked to Virgin again and after much checking they are saying it's my laptop that is at fault b'cos the ethernet light flashed on when I plugged the modem wire in and then it says'connected' for a few seconds and then 'a network cable is unplugg
Do you advise me taking it to a shop?
Thanks in advance

do you have a friend with a laptop who could try it at your place, or could you try your laptop somewhere else if your laptop works elsewhere then it's not your machine
