Slow internet
Hello, Ijust wondered if anybody could help me. My internet isrealy slow,it takes atleast 2 mins to load this site . When I click on 1 of my favorites I have been watching the Alcatel Speedtouch Connection Status window. This shows the amount of data received and sent also the amount of errors, when I click on a website to load it can be upto 3 mins before it completely loads, the data received increases very slowly until a few seconds before the page has loaded then it comes through quite quick. I also have a fewerrors clocking up. e.g. I've been online now for 20 mins , received 3,339,000bytes and sent 446,000 bytes, 29 errors have occured during this time. Has anyone got any idea how to speedthis up. Justout of interest my mobile phone loads pages far quicker than this laptop.

Hi Jimmer,
I'm sorry that no-one has responded to your post yet.
Has this problem only started happening recently or has it been going on for a while (maybe slowly getting worse until the point where it's now driving you mad)? Have you knowingly installed any new toolbars or ActiveX controls or other additions into your browser? Can we assume that you are running Internet Explorer 6 on your XP machine or have you recently updated to IE7?
Whenever I go out on site to do a computer "health check", I benchmark the Internet connection at www.speedtest.net. It's a really good site (no affiliation with or official approval from www.d-a-l.com) and will tell you what your true download and upload speed is. It would be worth you going on, running a test (which typically takes 1-2 minutes on a normal ADSL connection) and then letting us know the results.
Will look forward to hearing back from you

Thanks for your reply.
I ran the test on speedtest with the following results.
62 ms PING
766kbps dwn load
241kbps upload.
This problem has gradually got worse. I dont think i've downloaded any activex . I'm using ie7 which I downloaded around Christmas.
When i'm waitig for a site to download I watch the task manager and the speed of received data. The computer use bar stays around 5% and peaks every 5-6 seconds to about 35% for a second then back down. the data coming in is very slow for the most part and then it all seems to happen in a few seconds. Any ideas of what maybe causing this. P.s I'm running around 60 processes, What are these and are they all needed?.

766Kbps download isn't brilliant, yet it doesn't explain why using the Internet on your PC is as slow as you're suggesting. I'm wondering if your PC is totally over-run with Temporary Internet Files. Have you tried clearing these? You can do this through Control Panel > Internet Options. The specific options are different when you have IE7 installed but you should see an option on the first tab to delete temporary files. Don't clear your saved passwords (if you can avoid it) but everything else can go.
Also, clear your Windows temporary files. To do this, close as many running programs as you can, go to the Start Menu, click Run, type %temp% and then click OK. Delete all of the contents of the folder that opens up.
Reboot your PC after doing both of those.
Let us know if that helps

Cleared tempinternet files, I do this quite often.
Run %temp%, window opened wit 6 files in deleted 3 the other 3 wouldnt delete 2 said Access is denied, make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use. The file names frthese 2 areDF1255 and DF 1265. The lastfile said it could not be deleted as another person was using it, about 15 seconds later the file dissapeared and is'nt in the recycle bin. Can you make any sense from this
