open links from outlook express into firefox

I use Outlook Express for my email, but on my laptop computer, I'm not able to use Internet Explorer, so I'm using Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Is there a way I can click on a link in an email in Outlook Express and have it open in Mozilla Firefox? For some reason, I cannot access Internet Explorer from the laptop computer.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You!

    S. Gilson

Is Firefox set as your default browser?

Yes, it is, but the links still will not open.

    Lets give this a go

Open My Computer and then go to Tools> Folder Options.

    Click the File Types Tab.

Under the Extensions column, find an extension with (NONE) and then under the file types column find: URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol. Click this and then click he Advanced button.

Under Actions:, select open and click Edit.

In the Application used to perform action: box, Internet Explorer is probably entered. Delete the information from the box and then copy and paste the text below into the box:

    C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~2\FIREFOX.EXE -requestPending -osint -url "%1"

If the Use DDE is selected, look at the image below to see what your configuration should look like (click image to see it bigger):

    Hope this helps.

I followed your instructions and got as far as when I was to click "open" after I was in the URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol. There were NO options listed there.

Thanks for the information, however. It was worth a try.

As far as I know there is no way to change this.

IE and OE are part and parcel of the same program.

Links in OE open in IE.

    No option.

I've never tried Firebird but I assume the links there would open in Firefox.

It is a similar relationship between an e-mail program and browser.

On my computer they open in Firefox when using Outlook Express jephree, that's why I believe the fix I provided will work. If it doesn't, my computer must not play by the rules.

sgilson, would you take a look back at my instructions and where I tell you to click open and then click Edit, instead select the New button and under Action type open. Then input the firefox information. Select the use DDE checkbox and enter the information from the screenshot in my earlier post. I hope this works.

My apologies Owen. My searching in the past and also last night all led to my erroneous conclusion.

I do see now that there are options to allow this. Sorry.
