pdf file won't open in Firefox or OE

I have a current version of Adobe Reader on my computer. When I try to open
a pdf file from within Firefox I get this error message:

"pdf could not be opened because the associated helper application does not
exist. Change the association in your preferences."

If I can copy the pdf file to my desktop I can right click on it and it will
open. But a pdf file won't open in Firefox or Outlook Express.

Any help in solving this will be appreciated.

    Barbara

    This has been posted elsewhere:

Go to the "Firefox" menu in the top left, then click "Preferences." Go to the "Content" tab, and hit the button at the bottom that says "Manage." In the search field at the top, type "pdf." (I split off in my directions at this point, so read whichever paragraph applies to you.)

If you see anything in the box below, select it and hit the "Change Action" button, then click the second radio button. It will ask you to select an application. Navigate to Acrobat and hit OK.

If you don't see anything in the box below after your search, double click the list (with nothing in it, of course.) It will ask you to select an application. Navigate to Acrobat and hit OK.

This part is for Linux or Mac. In Windows you'll need to go to Tools>Options and then the rest is the same.

First of all you'll also need to have the Adobe Reader plugin installed in Firefox. You can check this by typing
    Code:
    about:plugins
in the URL bar and hit enter.
On the new page that appears, search for the "Adobe Acrobat - nppdf32.dll -Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape". If its not there you need to install it as its not been installed.

Let us know how that goes.
