    IE problem

IE boots up ok and works ok, but when I close it, then click on an icon or start button, computer locks up for about two minutes. After it sits for about two minutes, everything works again. I ran adaware, spybot and avg virus scan. I am using win98se. Any help would be appreciated.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?

Which version of IE are you running? IE6?

Do you/ have you cleared your temporary files?

I repaired IE6 from add/remove in control panel. Ran scan disk. I removed all temp. files and cookies with Ccleaner. Something worked, because now it is not hanging like it once was. Maybe it will be ok. Thanks.

I spoke too soon. The computer is hanging up again, only after I close IE6. It doesn't hang with any other program, only IE. I have been experiencing this just recently. No software/hardware changes. I am using Outpost firewall and AVG virus. I turned them both off and computer still hangs when I exit IE and click to open another program. However, if I close IE and wait about 2 minutes, it doesn't hang. Seems like it is taking too long to completely close IE. Any ideas?

I am not familiar with '98 but I see there is a Tasks function similar to the Task Manager in XP.

Earlier versions of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98) had a program known as tasks to display the current programs currently running. This file was executed by running the taskman.exe file from the C:\Windows directory.
I would see if you can close/end IE from this list and if so does it make a difference.
