    https problem

couple of days ago, i couldn't sign in to ebay. i presumed it was some slight hiccup, and didn't worry about it too much. but it's still like that today. when i click any link to sign in, it can't open the page. with the help of a friend who knows a bit about computers (but macs, not windows, so no in-depth help possible), we've worked out that it's https the computer can't open. when i try to access the pagem it tells me 'the page cannot be displayed' in IE, and 'action cancelled' in AOL and slimbrowser.

i've looked it up on google, and the fix where you re-register a load of files ending in .dll hasn't worked for me. the security settings on the advanced tab allow SSL, which i'm told is what ebay's https uses.

so...does anyone know what else i can do?
i don't know much about computers, so explaination in very basic terms would be greatly appreciated!

i'm using windows XP, with IE as my main browser (but as i said i've tried accessing https pages with other browsers and that hasn't worked either), on AOL broadband if that matters. my firewall is macaffee, not norton - reading up on this before asking, most people seem to say the problem fixes itself when they disable/uninstall norton, but i'm not using it.

also, people have said firefox works when IE has this problem, but i downloaded that and it wouldn't work on my computer so i gave up and uninstalled it. so don't tell me to try that cos the PC didn't like it. it also can't install flash, so it does have some problem somewhere. but that shouldn't mean it suddenly stops being able to access https!

when i suddenly went wrong, i'd not changed anything since friday, which was the last time i was able to access the ebay https page - no new programmes added or settings altered. any more information needed just ask, i'll be back often to see if i have any replies to this cos lack of ebay is going to really worry me! lol

hmm, well, i didn't fix it, but i got round it. i used a system restore point from last month and went back to that, the problem has gone. so no idea what caused it or how to sort it out, but no need to reply to this telling me how to mend it, cos it's ok
