Little to No Connectivity

Little to No Connectivity
I don't know if this is the right spot but I will give it a go - I'm sure it can be moved.
Ok so two days ago at around 7am Est, we had a random surge thru the area. Since that quick off and on, my internet has not worked. [But I have all my PC cords int oa Shock Protector!] I have tried:
- Renewing IP
But when I do this it either takes ages to do it or is unable to.
- Changed ends of my Cable Cord.
That did nothing that I could see to help.
- Connected my cable direct from modem to PC instead or router.
Also did nothing to help that I could see.
- I truned off my PC, Modem, and Router for an hour.
Turned back on with no better internet.
- Run: inetwiz
No help there, either.
BUT the weirdest part is after I put the internet cable cord back into my router - my sister in the other room [I am using it now] has internet. And just fine internet connection. Nice and fast.
I can't think why my computer is not accepting my internet. And of course my internet provider is refusing to aid with this as it is not a direct issue of theirs.
So I am very stuck here.

Hi and welcome to D-A-L
have you tried your sisters machine connected to your connection and yours connected to your sisters connection?
that way it will tell you if it's your machine or not
-
I personally do not know how to set it up though I do have all the disks and such stored. I will have to bring over my Geek of a boyfriend...I just was hoping to find the issue sooner rather then waiting on him because I run my business online...
If it is my PC a friend mentioned him having a similar issue because he had not updated Windows. If that is the reason behind my issue - as I have had update requests on my restarts - I am in trouble. I recently found out the Windows on my PC is bootleg. The guy who my parents payed to build PC's for my sister and myself did his best to keep as much of the money as possible. So he ****ed me over. :3

if it's because it a bootleg copy of windows you'll maybe have get a legit copy, without the updates you machine is open to all sorts of spyware etc.
-
as the copy of XP is not legit.
I'm sorry we can't be of any further assistance and I'll close this thread
