My dad has just givin me the laptop he bought 6 months or so back, its virtually brand new as he is useless with computers and only bought it on a whim to send e-mails from distant friends.
Anyway, he was using a pay as you go dial up connection. But at home I use a broadband connection through a cable modem. I am having difficulty getting a broadband connection on this laptop, using my home cable modem, as it is trying to connect using a dial up connection still.
I am quite competent at using computers, just not very at setting things up.
Can anyone give me any answers how to get connected?
Many thanks,
Bradley
Hi and welcome to D-A-L
are you using the ethernet connection?
can you delete the programme he used for PAYG dial up?
Hi, thanks for your reply.Originally Posted by brain_damage
I have uninstalled the programme he was using for PAYG dial up, and am using a USB connection.
have you got to install the drivers for the modem?
has your modem got an Ethernet connection, it's faster and doesn't use as much system resources
By install the drivers for the modem, do you mean installing the software that comes with the broadband pack? When i try to install the software, it gets so far and then says there is connection problems. I assume this is because the laptop is still trying to access the internet via a dial up connection?Originally Posted by brain_damage

Cheers,
Bradley.
