Angry I think this is what it said... "DNS error"

I am home for the summer and stuck using dial-up with my 6 year old notebook that's still kicking. I'm been trying to access my college websites for about a week now and everytime I try to do that I get the "Page cannot be displayed" page with internet explorer and it says this at the bottom...

"Cannot find server or DNS Error
    Internet Explorer"

I did a little googling with that dns thing and it appears as though there are ways to fix it, but I'm not sure what it is or if I should be doing it. AOL does this dns thing as well as internet explorer. It doesn't do this with any other website, just the 4 sites I use that are associated with my school's website. If this will help then here ya go too - - Yes, I've tried it on other computers and it works fine. Yes, I've fumbled with the IE settings and restored defaults about 20 times. Yes, I've made sure it isn't being blocked anywhere or anything like that. It's making me mad though. I'm trying to get my grades. grrrrrrrrrr haha. Thanks ahead of time I hope.

DNS errors are the common when your computer cannot find (identify) the server.

    You could try this:

start/run cmd then type: ipconfig /flushdns

Also clear all your cookies and temp files etc. Tools > Internet Options > General

Are you saying using other computers through this same dial-up account that you can connect to these sites?

What is the URL that you are trying to access?

The main url is www.oswego.edu and I am not able to click the green button in myoswego.oswego.edu to login and I can't login to www.oswego.edu/mail, but I just realized that the sites I can't open are all https sites. Maybe that has something to do with it. I don't know. Yup, I cleaned the temp files. I also tried the PageFix program and it did nothing for me. I also downloaded mozilla and still cannot open the sites. No I haven't used any other computer with this dial-up to get to the sites, but I opened it like a week and a half ago. The only thing I did between now and then was spysweeper, which i uninstalled. Still nada. I repaired internet explorer and still nothing. Makes no sense that it's just the oswego sites. I will try this flushing thing though. Thanks. I'm crossing my fingers.
