yesterday my favourites list went peculiar. it's now filled with the entire WINDOWS folder from my hard drive. my real favourites are no longer on the list, but are still in the 'documents and settings' folder. i can't delete the folders and files which have appeared on the favourites list, because when i tried this, they vanished from the actual WINDOWS folder in drive C as well, and obviously that's going to cause slight problems! i don't know what's caused the folders to swap. i've searched online, but not found any information about how to wipe the favourites list, and using the 'organise favourites' option on the menu, as i said, actually deletes the things from the real windows folder as well as the favourites list, so i can't take them all off that way. i also can't shove them all into a folder to condense them down, and add my real favourites on there after them, as some won't move because they're being used.
any ideas on how to either wipe the list so i can put in the old ones again, or mend it so the real list comes back to where it should be?
i'm on windows XP home edition, and using internet explorer.

just to add : removing and re-installing internet explorer has not worked, i've just downloaded it from microsoft and tested it, and the favourites list is still the windows folder.
