I am using a friend's computer to send this. On my computer, whenever I try to open Internet Explorer 6 it freezes up, I just get the hourglass. When I close it it says errors have occured and Microsoft Internet Explorer must be closed. Someone suggested I delete the temporary internet files, but when I try to do that it just freezes up again. I tried to do Windows Update but that freezes up too. I am stuck, I can't use the internet at all! Any ideas? thanks

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point/date when things worked OK:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

This just started yesterday. I was using Yahoo Messenger when I noticed it. I have not added any new hardware or software recently. I have Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, it does not seem to have the System Restore feature.

Do you have another browser installed that you can try?

If not you can put HijackThis onto a floppy and then run it on the affected computer.

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.

If you get an all clear there then come back here and we can see what else might have happened. Do you have your 2000 CD?
