    2 ieexplore.exe files running

When I dial up (running XP, ie5 sp1), a second ieexplore.exe tries to get access to the internet, although the firewall stops it. Also, several svchost.exe files are blocked from getting access. When I log off at the end, 2 ieexplore memory error messages appear. (The second ieexplore.exe even tries to get access when I am not trying to dial up). I can't find what application (or whatever) is causing this. Any ideas? Thanks

First off I would recommend updating to SP2 and IE6.

That being said there will be an iexplore.exe for every IE window that you have open so this in itself is not unusual. Your GUI or Windows is using explorer.exe

svchost.exe are generic. I usually have about 5 running.

What Firewall are you using? What error messages are you receiving?

You might consider running a HijackThis log by our Pros over iin that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).
