    I've damaged my Outlook Express.Help!

Hi, Hopefully someone might be able to help me,here we go then!
I'm on XP,(service pack 1) - kept gettin download updates now( from microsoft ).Me being paranoid,i never did ( in case pc crashed ).Other day i cleaned pc and thought,ok,i'll download them updates. While downloading,my PC seemed to freeze. So i restarted and it prompted again to D/Load,so i did,( + noticed it looked like it had d/loaded twice, causing a conflict??!)
So i took some files off , ( think I‘ve deleted a few files I shouldn‘t have - oops..) + PC crashed - TOTALLY!No drivers, nothing, got it started in dos,F8 - installed cdrom drivers from kids 98me floppy and re-installed XP saving my files ( thank god! ).
NOW! ALL my internet works - ( homepage, msn etc ), but outlook express won't send or receive
    I've tried alsorts.Deleted it,re-installed it - It won't have it.
Keeps asking for password, that's all i get - won't let me in.But my hotmail account is ok,so it MUST be Outlook? But what?

Searched forums but only found this advice so far:
Try this.. Go to "Tools" --> "Accounts" --> "Preferences" --> click the "Servers" tab --> at the bottom under the "Outgoing Mail Server" Check the box that says "My server requires authentication" ---> click the settings button and fill in your user name and password in there. This may solve the issue.
Now it's not asking for password, but still won't send/recieve.Getting this message: “Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Server: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18” -
Found OE error codes list and says “sicily logon_ failed”. I can’t log on to blueyonder.

I've got a "print screen" pic of my outlook page - and pictures.Just not sure how to post them right now - Ok, i'm a newbie
    ANY help muchly appreciated.Thanks,Dave.
    Sorry for long post.

    Thanks for the link,gonna ring blueyonder/telewest 2mor.
Beginning to think it's a server prob more than a pc prob.
Just keeps asking for password, unable to logon to blueyonder

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    rang telewest/blueyonder yesterday.
got a proper geek on the phone saying the whole of OE was down........ .yeah,right. After a ' discussion' with him no joy.
Then it came back online, finally, after more than a week.

    What a coincidence
