Broadband Problem, Browser Crashes after Connection
I moved house a few months back, and only just got my new internet connection. Previously, I was connected wirelessly to a router. The ISP was NTL I never had a problem.
I received my new Tiscali kit yesterday, installed the software and tried to connect. It connects, verifies username and password and says connection successful, but when I launch a browser, it just crashes! This happens with Internet Explorer, Netscape and Mozilla Firefox.
For a test, I loaded a webpage saved on my computer and it was fine. If I open Quick Time, and update, it says connection not available. So I ran the line test Tiscali supplied and it says its connected and running fine.
I have re-installed the modem software, re-installed all my browsers, ran scan disk, Virus
Scan, Adaware, Ace Utilies, Spybot... but nothing seems to help.
Also, I started getting problems with ZoneAlarm, it had an error and shut down. I though maybe this was stopping me connecting properly, but now ZoneAlarm doesn't run at all, and the same things happens.
I can't understand why I'm having a problem when I've made no changes to the system since moving, and it worked perfectly before!
I even spoke with Tiscali, who said it must be a software problem, probably with IE, but would that effect Netscape and Firefox too? Could it be something wrong in windows? I would re-install Win 98, but don't have the disk, but I do have XP somewhere that I've been meaning to install. Do you think this would help?
I've got a few other things I'm gonna try (IEFix and a few other things to check) but I'm not expecting them to work.
Has anyone got any ideas of what could be wrong, and what I can do to solve it?
Thankyou for any help!

What is the make and model of your modem?

Thanks for your response.
Its a Sagem Fast 800 USB Modem.

Well I would have said that it sounds like a firewall problem however since researching that modem I have come across lots of people having the same problems. None of them solved the problem until they bought a combined router/modem. I would suggest uninstalling zone alarm anyway seeing as it isn't working and check that the windows firewall isn't enabled (if 98 has one) just to rule out a firewall problem.
If no one else is able to help you you might find some information on the ADSL guide forum

IThanks for your help.
I managed to restore ZoneAlarm yesterday and tried it with out and without.
I've waited nearly 2 months for this modem to arrive (tiscali kept delaying me), do you know what the problem is, why it stops me from connecting? I'm annoyed that Tiscali havn't heard of this problem before.
How much am I lookin to pay for a combined router/modem?
I found my XP Pro disk, so I may try installing it tonight as I don't wanna spend any money unless I really have to.
Thanks for you're help!
