IE keeps on freezing, really annoying!
Hi, I have the latest IE browser, but recently it freezes after about 5-10 minutes of usage. It usually take about 5 mins for the task manager to show that IE is running again. Im running XP SP2, p4, 1500, 40 gigs. I have up to date norton 2005 anti virus, as-aware, spybot, spydoctor, spyguard, spyblaster. The scanner among them have picked up nothing. Im not getting redirected or anything , IE just freezes.
Any suggstions as to why and what to do about it. PS, Im not running a lot of applications when this happens.

You may have some corrupted or damaged files. Try doing a repair of the IE
according to the instructions here:
First, see if you can do a System Restore to a date prior to the time the
problem started:
How to do a System Restore in XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...N-US%3BQ306084
If this will not help, then you may need to repair IE:
Which is basically to reinstall SP2:
First, disable your AV:
How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/EN-US/
Be sure to visit Windows Update site and let it scan for all needed updates
and service packs afterward.
Prior to this you can try to error check the Event Viewer:
Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.

Hi, is there any way to check if IE is missing files without having to reinstal SP2. Im very dubious about doing this as there are a lot of updates. The first time I installed SP2 it wrecked my dvd-rom so that it unable to recognize any dvd. I dont want that happening again to the dvd rom in at present.
Would uninstalling IE as a component of XP then reinstalling it not correct any problems?

You can't actually remove IE, you can only remove it from startup. You could always try firefox browser.

As Jaynee points out IE is an integral part of XP. It cannot be removed.
As such it is IE SP2 that is installed with XP SP2. Therefore reinstalling/repair of the one leads to the other.
You might try a check disk. Wouldn't hurt:
start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.
