Problems With Downloading
Hi there,
I use Mozilla Fire Fox or Microsoft Internet Explorer when I'm on the net.
Both of these applications do exactly the same thing when I want to download, so it must be a setting I have wrong on my laptop, I just don't know what to change.
Basically, when I try to download an MP3 from any internet site, the browser just open a new window and plays the file through Quicktime. I don't want it to do this, I just want to be able to download them to my laptop.
I know it is just a settings problem because I went round to my mates house to see if it did the same there, but the files downloaded straight to his computer.
If anyone knows what the problem is, I would apreciate ANY help, it's SO annoying!!
Thanks a lot,
Will

have you tried to "RIGHT CLICK" and "SAVE AS" option?
-
Yeah, that doesn't work. It says I need Quicktime Pro to do that, which aint gonna happen cos I aint interested in getting that.
The thing is, I know that I can download these without having to right click or anything, it's just a setting on either the browsers or (more likely) Quicktime that needs to be changed.. I just don't know what or how to do it...

Open quicktime and go to edit > preferences > quicktime preferences > file type associations > file types. You will see a list of all the files associated with quicktime. Deselect any file type you do not wish quicktime to handle.
-
Yeah, I did that and I still have the same problem...
-
Have you got quicktime set up like this?
-
I deleted every filetype association, I've now even deleted the program and whenever I want to download, it still asks me to install quicktime. This occurs on both Firefox AND MS Internet Explorer.

If you open windows explorer and go to tools > folder options > file types and scroll down to the MP3 extention and highlight it, what is it set to open with?

Something doesn't seem quite right here. When you right click on a link and select "Save As..." it doesn't "know" what kind of file is at the other end of the link, so how can it be insisting on opening in Quick Time or anything else?
If all else fails, nip across to my website, Barney's Place, go to page 5 and download "Quick Time Alternative". You'll find Barney's Place at

Hope that helps.
